Premature marriage: Traditional authorities demand release of underage bride

In a dramatic turn of events, the Gborbu Wulomo’s Office has issued a stern warning, cautioning against the continued detention of Naa Okromo, a 16-year-old girl entangled in a controversial marriage ceremony with the Gborbu Wulomo, ahead of the Homowo festivities. The delay in her release has sparked outrage among traditional authorities, who are now invoking potential divine repercussions for those responsible.

Despite assurances from Child Rights International and promises of reunification with her family via the Department of Social Welfare, Naa Okromo remains in custody, much to the dismay of the community.

Expressing deep concern over the situation, Tsetse Nii Bortey Kofi Frankwa II, the Nungua Mankralo, aired his grievances in an interview with Citi News, highlighting the spiritual ramifications of withholding the young bride.

"The continued detention of Naa Okromo is deeply troubling to us. Any obstruction to her release not only disrupts the harmony of our community but also risks invoking spiritual consequences upon those responsible. We cannot allow this injustice to persist," he declared emphatically.

Drawing a direct link between the unresolved situation and the forthcoming Homowo Festival, Tsetse Nii Bortey Kofi Frankwa II issued a solemn warning, vowing to hold accountable anyone obstructing the customary rites associated with the festival.

"We will not hesitate to seek redress from our ancestors and invoke the intervention of our deities if necessary. The delay in releasing Naa Okromo jeopardizes the sanctity of our traditions and threatens to disrupt the spiritual balance of our community," he affirmed.

As tensions escalate and the deadline for Naa Okromo's release looms, traditional authorities stand united in their demand for justice and the immediate reunification of the young bride with her family. The outcome of this unfolding saga remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: the voices of the community will not be silenced until justice is served and the sacred customs of the Homowo Festival are upheld.
