On November 1, 2024, Ghana took a monumental step towards advancing its digital landscape with the launch of its 5G internet service in Accra. This high-speed connectivity initiative, spearheaded by NextGen Infraco, promises to revolutionize how Ghanaians connect, work, and innovate.
At the official launch, Tenu Awoonor, Managing Director of NextGen Infraco, highlighted the significant potential of 5G to drive economic growth across various sectors. He assured attendees that the investment in this cutting-edge technology will deliver substantial financial and economic returns for the nation.
“With 5G, we are committed to fostering a more inclusive society where every Ghanaian has access to opportunities. Whether you’re a farmer in Tamale, a small business owner in Kumasi, or a student in Cape Coast, this technology will connect you to the world and unlock new pathways,” Awoonor stated.
NextGen Infraco, a collaboration between the Ghanaian government and seven strategic partners—including Ascend Digital, K-NET, Radisys, Nokia, Tech Mahindra, and telecommunications companies AT Ghana and Telecel Ghana—positions itself as a leader in this transformative journey. Awoonor expressed pride in the role of NextGen Infraco, emphasizing that 5G is not just a technological upgrade but a crucial driver of growth and empowerment for all Ghanaians.
