At the Google I/O 2023 conference on Wednesday, Google unveiled a new feature for Gmail that would make it easier and faster for users to compose emails. The new function, called "Help Me Write," creates email drafts based on user input using artificial intelligence.
Users only need to begin typing an email before selecting the "Help Me Write" button in order to use this feature. The user can then update and finalize the AI-generated email draft that was created.
Help Me Write can be used for a range of email-related tasks, like sending a brief thank-you letter, setting up a meeting, or pursuing leads. Additionally, the AI may create email templates for typical actions like sending a job application or asking for a refund.
Help Me Write is still under development, but it has the capacity to help users write emails much faster and more efficiently. As AI continues to develop, it will probably become much more useful in the future.
The "help me write" function is essentially an extension of the auto-replies and generative text Google already employs in Gmail. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, cited the example of requesting a flight refund when announcing the functionality.
“Let’s say you got an email that your flight was cancelled. The airline has sent a voucher, but what you really want is a full refund. You could reply, and use Help me write,” Pichai stated.

The most crucial details, such as your travel dates and duration or the names of the things you ordered, will then be displayed in an information card at the top of the message rather than having to be manually scrolled through by you thanks to this function. Along with travel and retail confirmation emails, summary cards may also appear at the top of emails confirming reservations for hotels, restaurants, ticketed events like concerts, and Google Calendar invites.
*Nudging
You might be one in a million if you've never neglected to respond to an email. Nudging, which prompts you to respond to or follow up on crucial communications, is available for the rest of us. According to Chao, Nudging is the first Gmail AI tool that operates on both emails you have sent and received. It is also his preferred Gmail AI feature for a related reason: "It helps me retrieve a lot of missed emails," he says.
