Security Agencies Set to Recruit 11,000 New Personnel



The government of Ghana has announced a comprehensive initiative aimed at addressing the backlog of applicants seeking to join various security agencies under the Ministry of Interior. Beginning on Monday, July 8, 2024, the recruitment process is scheduled to commence, targeting the enrollment of 11,000 new personnel across multiple services.


This move underscores the government's commitment to providing job opportunities for the youth while bolstering the operational capabilities of security agencies in maintaining law and order nationwide. Key agencies involved in this recruitment drive include the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Narcotics Control Commission.


Financial clearance has already been secured for the recruitment, with instructions issued for agencies to prioritize candidates from the existing applicant pool. The Ghana Police Service plans to hire 4,000 officers, while the Ghana Prisons Service aims to recruit 1,500 personnel. Additionally, the Ghana Immigration Service is set to bring in 3,000 personnel, with the Ghana National Fire Service and Narcotics Control Commission hiring 2,000 and 500 personnel respectively.


Since 2017, the government has successfully recruited over 15,814 personnel into various security services, and this latest effort aims to raise the total recruitment number to 26,814.


To support these new recruits, the government has allocated resources such as vehicles, communication equipment, and accommodations. The recruitment process will adhere strictly to transparency and fairness principles, ensuring equal opportunities for all applicants.


Training for the new personnel will encompass both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, covering crucial areas such as law enforcement, crime prevention, and community policing. This training is designed to ensure that recruits are well-prepared to fulfill their duties effectively.


The government has also established a dedicated committee to oversee the entire recruitment process, ensuring impartiality and transparency. This committee will ensure that all applicants are treated fairly, free from bias or discrimination.
