Nigeria has added plumbing, makeup, hairstyling, phone repairs, Satellite/TV installation, tiling and 12 other Practical Skills to their Basic Education Curriculum

 

In a groundbreaking move, the Nigerian government has announced the integration of 14 new subjects into the Basic Education curriculum, set to take effect this month. These additions are designed to equip students with practical skills that will enhance their employability and prepare them for the workforce. Among the newly introduced subjects are plumbing, makeup artistry, hairstyling, phone repairs, interior design, tiling and floor works, event decoration, baking, and satellite/TV antenna installation, among others.

The aim of this educational reform is to move beyond traditional academic knowledge and provide students with the hands-on skills needed to thrive in today’s competitive job market. These subjects will be introduced across primary and junior secondary schools throughout the country, ensuring that the next generation is better prepared to enter various industries with relevant, marketable skills.
