Military Officer shot dead amid land dispute in Kasoa, Chief arrested

In a devastating turn of events, a military officer, believed to be in his late 30s, has tragically lost his life in a land dispute incident in Kasoa, Central Region. The officer, accompanied by two colleagues, was confronted by a harrowing act of violence while attempting to address the ongoing land conflict.

The distressing incident unfolded in front of the Millennium City Police station, located in the Gomoa East District. According to sources from Citi News, the conflict stemmed from a land acquisition made by a brother of one of the military officers from local chiefs in Millennium City. However, persistent resistance from landguards thwarted any development efforts on the acquired land.

Seeking resolution, the deceased military officer and his companions embarked on a mission to address the escalating tensions. Despite lodging a previous complaint at the Millennium City District Police Command, they were met with further resistance upon confronting individuals working on the disputed land.

As they attempted to lodge another complaint at the police station, they encountered the Gyasehene of Millennium City, Benlord Ababio, who implored them not to proceed. Ignoring the chief's plea, they proceeded towards the Divisional Police Command, prompting a fatal response.

Tragically, as they drove away, shots were fired at their vehicle from behind, resulting in the untimely death of one officer. Two others narrowly escaped unharmed. Eyewitnesses recounted the heart-wrenching scene, detailing the attempt to mediate the situation and the sudden eruption of violence.

In the aftermath of the shooting, the Gyasehene, Benlord Ababio, was swiftly apprehended by authorities and transferred to the Divisional Police Command in Accra for his safety. The incident has cast a somber shadow over the community, highlighting the grave consequences of unresolved land disputes and the urgent need for peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms.
