I will create a new city to decentralize Accra's congestion – John Mahama

In a bid to combat the burgeoning congestion choking Accra, John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has unveiled an ambitious plan to embark on a feasibility study for the construction of a brand-new city outside Accra's boundaries. This visionary initiative, articulated during a recent dialogue with the European Union Chamber of Commerce, not only aims to alleviate the strain on Accra but also promises a plethora of economic opportunities for Ghana.

Mahama's proposal envisions the emergence of a new growth pole, poised to catalyze job creation throughout its development and beyond. While affirming Accra's status as the capital, Mahama emphasized the imperative of redistributing governmental functions to the proposed city, effectively decentralizing administrative activities.

The prospective city, spanning across the regions of Greater Accra, Eastern, and Volta, is earmarked to thrive in proximity to the expansive Volta Lake.
