Unknown numbers of female students from the Federal University Gusau in Nigeria's northwest Zamfara state have been abducted by armed attackers.
Three hostels in the Sabon Gida neighborhood were the targets of the early-morning kidnapping on Friday.
Before breaking into the dorms, the gunmen reportedly opened fire randomly, according to witnesses.
Both the police and the university administration have not yet released a formal comment about the incident.
This kidnapping follows a related occurrence in 2021 in which bandits kidnapped around 300 schoolgirls in the Zamfara state.
However, after discussions between the government and the abductors, they were ultimately freed.
In the north-western part of Nigeria, kidnappings for ransom have increased as armed gangs target people in towns, on roads, and even in agricultural areas.
