A joyous celebration turned to heartbreak last Friday in Akyem Anamase, near Oda in the Eastern Region, as Chief Inspector Godwin Beniba, a beloved local police officer, tragically passed away during his wedding ceremony.
Chief Inspector Beniba, the Station Officer at the Anamase Police Station, had just arrived at the Anamase Hotel, the venue for his much-anticipated wedding to Florence Debrah, when disaster struck. Surrounded by his best men, he was preparing for the arrival of his bride when he suddenly complained of dizziness. Before anyone could assist, he collapsed to the ground.
Despite the swift efforts of guests, who quickly rushed him to the Anamase Clinic, medical professionals sadly confirmed that he had passed away upon arrival. The news of his untimely death sent shockwaves through the event, leaving the guests, including many police officers who had traveled from across the country, in deep mourning.
The atmosphere at the venue, once filled with excitement, was quickly overtaken by grief. The grand feast prepared for the wedding went largely untouched, as the stunned attendees left the venue in sorrow, struggling to comprehend the tragic turn of events.
Beniba's family, who had traveled from the Northern Region to celebrate the union, arranged for his body to be transported to the Oda Government Hospital morgue for an autopsy and preservation.
The loss has left the Akyem Anamase community in profound sadness, with the usual festive spirit of the Christmas season overshadowed by the shock and sorrow of this unexpected tragedy.
