A Nigerian entertainer has been condemned to a half year detainment for messing with the cash after she was recorded splashing and stepping on recently given naira notes the year before.
Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin was captured last February in Lagos after the video of her at a party surfaced on the web.
The Nollywood star was likewise seen parading rolls of the cash that had recently been upgraded.
According to the authorities, she amended her first not guilty plea to guilty.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the nation's anti-fraud agency, alleged that the Nollywood actor was caught on camera dancing at a friend's wedding in Lekki, Lagos, a year ago, with 100,000 naira ($83; £66) worth of notes.
Omoseyin told the commission that she didn't know who gave her the money and that she got the fresh naira notes from her supporters at the celebration.
Omoseyin entered a guilty plea when she appeared in court on Thursday, the EFCC said in a statement published on X, citing "overwhelming" evidence against her.
The actress begged for mercy through her attorney, citing her status as a first-time offender and single mother.
The EFCC claims that Omoseyin, also referred to as Simi Gold, requested a non-custodial punishment.
The offender was given a six-month prison sentence by Judge Chukwujekwu Aneke, with the opportunity to pay a $250 fine.
It's unclear if the actress will file an appeal against the judge's decision.
The event took place during a period of extreme naira cash shortage that followed the contentious removal of the old 200, 500, and 1,000 notes from circulation.
Months of uncertainty came to an end last November when the nation's central bank said that the old banknotes will continue to be valid.
